DecrimWA (originally named the Sex Worker Issues Group, or ‘SWIG’) was formed in early 2020 by a group of WA sex workers who were passionate about advocating for the full decriminalisation of sex work in Western Australia.

Despite the barriers presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic, DecrimWA has continued to campaign for legislative change and sex workers rights.

Although DecrimWA is a grassroots movement and is not run or funded by any one sex work organisation, SWEAR has maintained an active role in the campaign since the beginning.

What DecrimWA has done so far:

  • Met with over 25 politicians, including state MP’s & Ministers, federal Senators, and the WA Attorney-General

  • Successfully advocated for several motions on sex work to be added to the WA Labor Party Platform in 2023, including a resolution to “investigate and review (the Criminal Code) with a view to decriminalising sex work”

  • Collaborated with Curtin Law School students to review current sex work legislation (ongoing).

Are you a WA sex worker who wants to get involved?

DecrimWA is always looking for WA sex workers who are willing to contribute their ideas, time and skills. DecrimWA would also love to hear from sex workers who can expand our group’s diversity of voices and lived experiences.
